Maria Lourdes Galindo is a second generation coffee producer whose farm “La Esperanza” is located in Garzón, Huila. Founded in 1988, La Esperanza has around 1200 coffee trees which include Colombia, Castillo & Caturra varieties. The primary harvest occurs between October and November, followed by a second harvest (mitaka) in May and June. Maria handpicks her cherries, assisted by a team of six pickers, and she employs two permanent staff members on her farm.

The cherries are hand-picked and then floated to sort them by density. Following this, they undergo dry fermentation in a tank and are dried using a parabolic dryer.

Maria is part of Coocentral which has around 3500 members and is the largest cooperative in central Huila. Coocentral is committed to social programs and helps producers with education, housing and hospital costs.
