We are happy to offer our highly requested Fuglen Barista Course!

Our new barista course is a 3-day intensive covering everything from coffee theory to practical hands-on brewing practice. Espresso and milk steaming to coffee cupping and pour-over techniques. This course is designed to develop your skills and understanding of coffee, whether you want to level up your at home barista game or make you ready to work behind the bar. Here is what the course looks like. 

DAY 1 
THEORY & CUPPING

After starting with a welcome and introductions, we will dive right into the theory behind coffee brewing and processing, from cherry to cup. This will also include a tour of the Fuglen roastery and coffee cupping where you will be able to apply many of the principles covered in the theory portion to understand the different components that impact coffee flavor. 

 

Theory will cover concepts like:

- History of coffee

- Coffee origins

- Coffee processing

- Direct Trade

- Bar workflow

- Flavor wheel 

DAY 2
ESPRESSO & MILK

All about Espresso and milk steaming! You will be guided through the most vital principles in brewing and serving quality espresso. 

 

This includes:

- Espresso terminology

- Espresso machine routines
- Developing an espresso recipe 

- How to taste espresso

-Queue management

-Cup language

 

In the milk steaming course, we will guide you through: 

-How to steam milk

-Pouring latte art

-Steam different kinds of milk 

-Common pitfalls of steaming milk

-Different milk beverages (cortado, cappuccino, latte etc.)

DAY 3
HAND BREWS & ICE COFFEE

Our final day together will dive into the world of hand brewing! You will learn our recipes, tips & tricks, as well as get hands on brewing experience. Hand brewing will cover a wide range of brewing methods including: Chemex, Kalita, V60, French Press, Kokekaffe, Aeropress.

 

You will also learn all about iced coffee. This includes: 

 

Espresso based iced drinks: Iced latte, Iced cortado, Iced mocha, Espresso tonic, Frappé, Shakerato.

 

As well as Filter-based iced coffee:
-Japanese ice coffee
-Filter brew with ice

Full Course (3 Day): 7,500 nok 

Day 1 (Theory & Cupping): 2,500 nok

Day 2 (Espresso & Milk): 3,500 nok

Day 3 (Hand Brews & Ice Coffee) : 3,500 nok

This is a 3 day course, from 14:00-19:00 including breaks (5 hours each day). Lunch is provided each day. Courses are offered once a month and limited to 6 participants per course. Each participant will receive:

- 1 complimentary bag of coffee beans of their choosing

- Fuglen Barista Course Diploma
