This is our second time buying a peaberry from the Gitesi washing station in Karongi district. This washing station is run by father and son Alexis & Aime Gahizi and was built in 2005. Alexis is from this region and his family has been growing coffee for generations. As a result the family has strong ties with the local community of farmers.
Around 1800 farmers in the area deliver coffee cherries to the Gitesi washing station during the harvest season which is usually March - July. Alexis and Aime have implemented a bonus system for farmers which means there is incentive to focus on quality throughout the growing season.
