Morris Njage and wife Linette are the owners and growers of Kivanga estate coffee. A lawyer by profession, Morris has now retired to focus on farming on the 15 acre farm. As one of the first smallholder farmers to divert from the cooperative structure, Kivanga has done its own primary processing since 1983.

After hired pickers have brought the cherry to the factory, coffee is pulped using a three disc pulper, before it is dry fermented between 12 and 36 hours depending on the ambient temperature. Then, the coffee is washed in channels to remove all the remaining fruit mucilage, before the coffee is dried on raised beds. Drying takes around 14 days.

The farm was given its name from a traditional name in the family, and lies in the Kibugu area of Embu County.
