Bensa is an area located within the Sidamo region of Ethiopia. This region is renowned for its coffees which often are complex with crisp acidity, rich body and floral notes.

The Sidamo region is home to a population of around 7.8 million people who speak the cushitic language Sidaama or Sidaamu Afoo. The region is spread across the Rift Valley with elevation ranging between 1,500 - 2,200 m.a.s.l. The high elevations mean that coffee tends to ripen slower with a later harvest than other areas of Ethiopia, this in turn leads to development of complex flavours.

Many of the farmers in this area only own a few coffee trees which they then harvest and take the cherries to the Bensa washing station to be processed.  In recent years more focus has been put on traceability within the coffee industry. This has led to washing stations separating coffees by village prior to processing to enable better traceability for consumers.
